Gagnon scores twice, Jaffrey has goal and two assists, IceCaps beat Devils 4-2

ALBANY, N.Y. - Aaron Gagnon scored a short-handed goal in the second period, and a power-play goal in the third, to lead the St. John's IceCaps to a 4-2 victory over the Albany Devils in American Hockey League action Wednesday.

Gagnon's first goal at 3:20 of the second period gave St. John's a 3-1 lead, and his second, at 8:25 of the third, made it 4-1 while extending his point streak to a franchise-record 11 games.

Joe Whitney opened the scoring for Albany, but Jason Jaffrey tied it for St. John's (28-33-5) midway through the first period just after a power play expired. Jaffrey also had a pair of assists.

Eric O'Dell set an IceCaps record when he scored for the sixth game in a row to make it 2-1 on a power play in the opening minute of the second period. The goal was his 25th of the season, which is also a franchise record.

Brandon Burlon closed out the scoring for Albany (27-26-11).

Mark Dekanich made 21 saves for the IceCaps, while Jeff Frazee stopped 17 shots for the Devils.

St. John's was 2 for 7 on the power play, while Albany was 1 for 6.

Quote of the Day

It's about enjoying the moment. It's pretty cool to get that many people together and that excited about hockey to the point they really want you to mess up. They've got a ton of red jerseys and you have to sit back and appreciate people love hockey that much and you are the one out there who gets to play the game. Just try and stick with that respect for the game and also the mentality that for me it's just about entering the fight and seeing how long I can stay in it.
