Calgary Flames make Jarome Iginla a healthy scratch amid trade speculation

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames are keeping Jarome Iginla off the ice amid trade speculation surrounding the team's longtime captain.

Iginla was a healthy scratch ahead of the Flames' home game against the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old is in the final year of his contract after spending 16 seasons in a Flames uniform.

Calgary is 14th in the Western Conference and facing a fourth straight season of playoff-free hockey.

Iginla, who led the Flames to an eventual defeat in the 2003-04 Stanley Cup final, had previously said he wanted to stay in Calgary.

But the team's all-time scoring leader reportedly provided general manager Jay Feaster with a list of teams he would consent to join.

Quote of the Day

I have been blessed to play for 16 years in the NHL; it has been an amazing ride. I would like to thank the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers organizations and owners for providing me the opportunity to play the sport I love for so many years. I could have never played for so long or accomplished all that I have without the unwavering love and support from my wife, Heather, our three sons, Ryan, Lucas, and Mason, and my parents.
