Bruins claim Daugavins off waivers two weeks after audacious shootout attempt

BOSTON - Kaspars Daugavins' shootout skills must have made an impression on the Boston Bruins.

Boston has claimed the Latvian forward off waivers from the Ottawa Senators. The move comes two weeks after Daugavins caused a stir with an audacious shootout attempt in a game against the Bruins.

In a March 11 game in Ottawa, Daugavins carried the puck by pressing down on it with the tip of his stick before attempting a failed spinarama move in front of goaltender Tuukka Rask. The Bruins went on to win the game 3-2.

In 19 games with the Senators this season, Daugavins has registered one goal and two assists with nine penalty minutes. He has six goals, eight assists and 21 penalty minutes in 85 career NHL games.

The six-foot, 205-pound Riga native was drafted by the Senators in the third round (91st overall) of the 2006 NHL draft.
