The Phoenix Coyotes have placed goaltender Mike Smith on the injured reserve list with an upper-body injury, retroactive to March 21.
Smith was injured last Thursday when he was run over by Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler late in the second period of a 2-1 home loss to the Canucks. He finished the period, but was replaced by Jason LaBarbera for the third period and has not played since.
The Coyotes are 0-5-1 in their past six games and have dropped to 12th in the Western Conference. Smith has an 11-10-3 record with a 2.83 goals-against average and a save percentage of .901. His GAA and save percentage are substantially worse than last season, when he put up a 2.21 GAA and .930 save percentage while going 38-18-10.
