Penguins bolster second line, acquire forward Brenden Morrow from Dallas

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The streaking Pittsburgh Penguins acquired forward Brenden Morrow from the Dallas Stars on Sunday to bolster the team's second line.

Pittsburgh sent defenceman Joe Morrow, the team's first-round pick in the 2011 draft, and a fifth-round choice this year to Dallas in exchange for Morrow and the Stars' third-round pick in the draft.

The 34-year-old Morrow has 243 goals and 285 assists in 835 games, all with Dallas. Morrow will become a free agent at the end of the season. He waived his no-trade clause to move to the Penguins.

The Penguins are hoping to pair Morrow with former Dallas teammate James Neal and reigning NHL MVP Evgeni Malkin on the team's second line. Malkin remains out with an upper body injury but could return later this week.

Quote of the Day

I'm just excited about the opportunity. I've been on the ice earlier than usual and in the weight room, pushing around a little more weights than usual. Every day I go into a workout with a smile on my face and ready to go. When you do have a little more responsibility, you want to take your lunch pail and get ready to work.
