Lotz stops 55 shots as Silvertips surprise Winterhawks to take 1-0 series lead

PORTLAND, Ore. - Austin Lotz made 55 saves as the Everett Silvertips upset the host Portland Winterhawks 4-3 on Friday in Western Hockey League playoff action.

Portland, which was the WHL's top club in the regular season, finished 59 points ahead of Everett and 28-7-1 on home ice, however the Silvertips lead the first-round matchup 1-0.

Kohl Bauml scored twice for Everett while Joshua Winquist and Cole MacDonald added a goal each.

Nicolas Petan, Chase De Leo and Ty Rattie scored for Portland and Mac Carruth turned away 27 shots in defeat.

Everett failed to score on two chances with the man advantage while Portland went 2 for 4.

Game 2 goes on Saturday Mar. 23rd when the Winterhawks host the Silvertips at the Rose Garden.
