Brown upsets top-seeded Quinnipiac 4-0 in ECAC tournament semifinals

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Matt Lorito scored twice and Brown upset top-seeded Quinnipiac 4-0 Friday in the semifinals of the ECAC hockey tournament.

Goalie Anthony Borelli made 29 saves for Brown (16-13-6), which scored twice in each of the first two periods.

Brown, which beat second-seeded Rensselaer in the quarterfinals, will face either Yale or Union in Saturday's championship game, the first for the Bears since 1993.

Lorito has a goal in seven straight games. He opened the scoring 9 minutes into the first period and also tallied on a 5-on-3 power play in the second, beating goalie Eric Hartzell with a shot just under the crossbar.

Quinnipiac (26-7-5) has been ranked No. 1 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll for six straight weeks and is expected to get a top seed in the NCAA tournament despite the loss.

Quote of the Day

I spent a long summer thinking about that playoff series and what could have been. [The Blackhawks] ended up being the Stanley Cup champions, so we know we lost to a very good team. It's tough to know how close we were, and it motivates us for this year.
