Jaromir Jagr: Should Stars keep or move him?
NHL.com takes examines the pros and cons to the Dallas Stars making Jaromir Jagr available to move at the 2013 NHL Trade Deadline.

Jaromir Jagr has been as good as advertised for the Dallas Stars, providing a strong, winning presence on and off the ice.

At 41, Jagr remains a productive offensive performer, especially on the Stars' vastly improved power play.

However, with the Stars' Stanley Cup Playoff hopes difficult to assess in a tightly contested Western Conference, will he continue being that positive contributor for the Stars?

NHL.com takes examines the pros and cons to the Stars making Jagr available to move at the April 3, 2013 NHL Trade Deadline:

JAROMIR JAGR

Position: Right wing

Age: 41

Statistics: 27 games, 10 goals, 8 assists, 18 points

Salary status: Jagr signed a one-year, $4.55 million contract with the Stars in July and will be unrestricted free agent this summer.

Keep him: As seen for the Philadelphia Flyers in 2011-12, Jagr is as important off the ice as he is on it, providing a quality role model for the team's younger players. Jagr keeps himself in pristine condition, and unlike last season when he fought a groin injury most of the season, he's been healthy, missing one game this season. As tight as the Western Conference is, the Stars are just a small win streak from climbing into a playoff spot. Having a top performer like Jagr in the fold would raise the odds on that occurring.

Move him: Jagr's signing was part of an offseason when the Stars brought in a few older players with the hope their veteran leadership could get the team into the playoffs, but they're in a dog fight for one of the final spots. At age 41 it's unknown if Jagr wants to play another season, so the wise move could be dealing him to get something return. Jagr said last season he had the most fun of his career playing with the Philadelphia Flyers, so that could be a destination if general manager Joe Nieuwendyk looks in that direction. However, if he makes Jagr available, there likely will be no shortage of suitors in a short season.
