The Carolina Hurricanes announced Wednesday that defenseman Justin Faulk is expected to miss 2-4 weeks with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee.

Faulk left the game Tuesday against the Florida Panthers in the second period when he was checked into the end boards.

In 28 games this season, Faulk has three goals, seven assists and a plus-3 rating, and leads the team with an average ice time of 23:23 per game.

It means a lot to us, we're very excited. We're looking to continue to build on [our] top core talent of young players. It's just a great opportunity for us to really build high.
