Report: Lecavalier has broken foot, Malone also out
Report: Tampa Bay Lightning's Vincent Lecavalier has broken foot.

The Tampa Bay Times reported Monday that the injury sidelining Tampa Bay Lightning center Vincent Lecavalier is a broken bone in his left foot.

In addition, forward Ryan Malone is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury, and defenseman Victor Hedman is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. They were injured in Monday's 4-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Lecavalier sat out Monday, the third straight game he's missed with what he and the club have called a lower-body injury. Lecavalier was injured in the third period of a game March 12 against the Florida Panthers. The latest injury reportedly is near or on the same spot where Lecavalier sustained a bone bruise when he was hit by a shot by teammate Sami Salo on Feb. 2.

The newspaper also reported that Lecavalier will not travel with the team on its upcoming three-game road trip through Canada.

"It [the injury] didn't look like anything, but obviously something did happen," Lecavalier said Monday. "I guess you could say it's kind of a fluky thing. I'm going to train here and make sure that when I'm back playing, I'll be ready to go."

Lecavalier wouldn't go into detail on his injury Monday, but said his current activities are limited to off the ice.

"It's more of a waiting game and waiting and rest it," he said. "I can still do some other stuff. Skating right now is not a possibility."

Lecavalier has seven goals and 15 assists in 26 games, and said not being able to help the team climb back into the Stanley Cup Playoff race is tough. Their 4-2 win against the Flyers on Monday moved them up to 11th in the Eastern Conference, but they're still five points out of a playoff spot.

"Definitely disappointing [to be out], especially to be in the situation we're in right now, fighting for the playoffs," Lecavalier said. "Nothing but kind of a little bit of a waiting game. Work out hard, be ready to play when I'm ready."
