PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang sat out the final two periods of a 2-1 win Sunday against the Boston Bruins because of a lower-body injury.

After the game, Letang was seen in street clothes but not in any sort of boot or cast. The only update the team gave was that he would be further evaluated, coach Dan Bylsma said.

The NHL's scoring leader among defensemen, Letang has three goals and 25 assists in 26 games this season. He recorded a shot on goal, a blocked shot and a minus-1 rating in 7:02 of ice time during the first period against the Bruins.

Letang, who missed three games in early February because of a lower-body injury, had at least one assist in seven of his previous eight games -- all Pittsburgh victories. He is third in the NHL in assists behind teammate Sidney Crosby and the Tampa Bay Lightning's Martin St. Louis.

Letang's next point will be the 200th of his career. He had a seven-game assist streak in home games snapped Sunday.

Television replays showed Letang gesturing in pain after taking a slash from Boston's Brad Marchand late in the first period, and it also appeared as if Marchand's skate could have made contact with the back of Letang's leg. Marchand said Letang mentioned he was in pain.
