Hard-luck winger Booth leaves game with leg injury suffered on check into boards

VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Canucks lost winger David Booth to a leg injury Saturday night against the Detroit Red Wings.

Booth was injured in the final minute of the first period as he raced to the puck in the Detroit corner to beat an icing call. He got the puck in time, but was checked into the boards and wound up under a pile of players.

As play continued, he was slow to get up and could not put any weight on his left leg as he glided off. He remained on the bench until the first intermission and was then helped into the dressing room by trainers.

He did not return for the start of the second period, and the team would only say Booth suffered a lower-body injury.

The mishap continued a season of misfortune for the hard-luck winger.

The 28-year-old Detroit native suffered a groin injury on the first day of physical testing in training camp and missed the first 14 games. He was a healthy scratch for another game and has produced just one goal, an empty-netter Thursday against Nashville.
