Athanasiou scores winner as Colts beat IceDogs

BARRIE, Ont. - Andreas Athanasiou scored the game-winning goal as the Barrie Colts edged the Niagara IceDogs 3-2 in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday night.

Erik Bradford and Justin Scott also scored for Barrie (44-20-4), which finished its season having won eight of its last nine games.

Cody Brown added a pair of assists in the victory.

The Colts had already assured themselves of the Central Division title and second place in the Eastern Conference, although their opponent is yet to be determined.

Shayne Rover and Mack Lemmon struck for Niagara (30-34-4), which came in to Saturday having already clinched sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

The IceDogs will face the Oshawa Generals in the opening round of the playoffs.

Alex Fotinos turned aside 32 shots in the victory as Niagara’s Brent Moran made 42 saves.

Barrie finished the night 1 for 5 on the power play while Niagara went 1 for 4.

Quote of the Day

Well, for me this one's concerning, the way we performed. Because three games in, playing a desperate team on the road, I was expecting something else than this. Right now, I'm just disappointed. The other games, I thought we did some things that you can build off your game. There wasn't a lot accomplished in tonight's game.
