MacLeod, Machac four points each as Battalion halt Colts winning streak

BRAMPTON, Ont. - Matt MacLeod scored three times and set up one more as the Brampton Battalion downed the visiting Barrie Colts 5-3 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Patrik Machac had a goal and three assists for the Battalion (33-25-9), who have won three games in a row, and rookie Blake Clarke chipped in with three assists.

"Awesome job from the guys today," said MacLeod. "That’s the way we need to play in order to be successful in the playoffs."

Barclay Goodrow added a single goal to round out Brampton's offence.

Steven Beyers, Ryan O'Connor and Aaron Ekblad scored for the Colts (43-20-4), who had their seven-game win streak snapped, and Mitchell Theoret had two assists.

Jake Smith made 21 saves for the win as Mathias Niederberger stopped 28 shots in a losing cause.

Brampton went 2 for 5 on the power play while Barrie scored once on six chances with the man advantage.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
