SAGINAW, Mich. - Matt Puempel scored three times and Joshua Leivo had two goals and an assist as the Kitchener Rangers crushed the host Saginaw Spirit 7-1 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League play.
Curtis Meighan and Derek Schoenmakers also scored for the Rangers (39-19-9), who clinched home-ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs, while Tobias Rieder chipped in with three assists.
Jimmy Lodge scored the lone goal for the Spirit (32-29-6).
John Gibson stopped 37-of-38 shots for the win as Nikita Serebryakov made 29 saves in a losing cause.
Kitchener went 1 for 2 on the power play while Saginaw failed to score on its only chance with the man advantage.
