Capitals acquire two players in separate trades
Capitals general manager George McPhee made a pair of trades on Thursday to acquire two minor-league players -- Chay Genoway and Nicolas Deschamps.

Washington Capitals general manager George McPhee made a pair of trades Thursday to acquire two minor-league players: defenseman Chay Genoway and forward Nicolas Deschamps.

Genoway was acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft. Genoway, 26, has four goals, 19 points and a plus-11 rating in 53 games with Minnesota's American Hockey League affiliate in Houston.

He made one NHL appearance for the Wild and notched an assist on April 7, 2012, against the Phoenix Coyotes. According to the Capitals, Genoway will report to the AHL's Hershey Bears.

The 5-foot-9, 177-pound Genoway was signed by Minnesota as an undrafted free agent on April 12, 2011. He posted 26 goals and 127 points in 168 career games with the University of North Dakota, helping the team advance to the 2011 Frozen Four.

Later in the day, McPhee dealt defenseman Kevin Marshall to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Deschamps.

Deschamps, a 2008 second-round pick (No. 35) of the Anaheim Ducks, had seven goals and 16 points in 49 games with the AHL's Toronto Marlies this season. Marshall, a 2007 second-round pick (No. 41) of the Philadelphia Flyers, had one goal and four points in 52 games for the AHL's Hershey Bears.

Quote of the Day

I think I'm lucky to be here and you definitely don't take very many things for granted, if you take anything for granted. I definitely put my family and my wife and my close family in perspective, that they're the most important thing in the world. I want to do whatever I can to play hockey, but like I said, under the right circumstances.
