Heard has three goals, Mahalak stops 29 shots as Whalers blast Greyhounds 8-0

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - Mitchell Heard had three goals and an assist, and the Plymouth Whalers ended a five-game losing streak against Sault Ste. Marie, by hammering the Greyhounds 8-0 in OHL action Wednesday.

Matthew Mistele scored twice, and Vincent Trocheck, Garrett Meurs and Cody Payne rounded out the scoring for the Whalers (40-17-9).

Matt Mahalak stopped 29 shots for the shutout.

It's the ninth time in Whalers history that the team has won at least 40 games.

Heard opened the scoring on the power play at 8:37 of the first period. He made it 5-0 at 6:19 of the second period, and completed the hat trick with the game's final goal at 14:57 of the third.

Matt Murray stopped 37 shots for the Greyhounds (34-25-6).

The Whalers went 2 for 9 on the power play while the Greyhounds were 0 for 9.
