BELLEVILLE, Ont. - Brendan Gaunce had a hat-trick, and the Belleville Bulls clinched their fourth OHL East Division title in seven years, with a 5-2 victory over the Oshawa Generals on Wednesday.
Daniil Zharkov and Alan Quine rounded out the scoring for the Bulls (42-16-8).
Boone Jenner and Scott Laughton scored for Oshawa (40-22-4).
Jenner roofed a rebound at the side of the Belleville goal to open the scoring at 3:39 of the first period. The Bulls tied it when Zharkov slipped a shot through Daniel Altshuller from the left faceoff circle.
The clubs swapped goals in the middle period, starting with Laughton picking up a short handed marker at 1:29. Gaunce answered almost five minutes later with his 29th goal of the season to tie it 2-2.
Quine's goal at 3:48 of the third period stood as the winner. Gaunce got the insurance marker with his second of the game at 14:48, and followed that with his third goal, and 31st of the season, on the power play at 16:52.
Altshuller finished the night making 26 saves for the Generals, while Malcolm Subban stopped 39 shots for the Bulls.
Belleville was 1 for 5 on the power play, while Oshawa came up empty on its lone power play.
