BELLEVILLE, Ont. - Brendan Gaunce had a hat-trick, and the Belleville Bulls clinched their fourth OHL East Division title in seven years, with a 5-2 victory over the Oshawa Generals on Wednesday.

Daniil Zharkov and Alan Quine rounded out the scoring for the Bulls (42-16-8).

Boone Jenner and Scott Laughton scored for Oshawa (40-22-4).

Jenner roofed a rebound at the side of the Belleville goal to open the scoring at 3:39 of the first period. The Bulls tied it when Zharkov slipped a shot through Daniel Altshuller from the left faceoff circle.

The clubs swapped goals in the middle period, starting with Laughton picking up a short handed marker at 1:29. Gaunce answered almost five minutes later with his 29th goal of the season to tie it 2-2.

Quine's goal at 3:48 of the third period stood as the winner. Gaunce got the insurance marker with his second of the game at 14:48, and followed that with his third goal, and 31st of the season, on the power play at 16:52.

Altshuller finished the night making 26 saves for the Generals, while Malcolm Subban stopped 39 shots for the Bulls.

Belleville was 1 for 5 on the power play, while Oshawa came up empty on its lone power play.

For me, it's a great win for our hockey team and for a lot of people back in Columbus, especially our fans in particular … people who have been devoted to this organization, it's big.
