Meurs with four points as the Whalers extend win streak

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Garrett Meurs scored three times and set up one more as the Plymouth Whalers downed the visiting Saginaw Spirit 7-5 on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Sebastian Uvira and Mitchell Heard each had a goal and an assist for the Whalers (39-17-9), who extended their win streak to five games, while Stefan Noesen chipped in with two assists.

Connor Sills and Vincent Trocheck also scored for Plymouth.

Dalton Young led the Spirit (31-28-6) offensively with two goals and an assist and Garret Ross had a goal and an assist.

Justin Kea and Eric Locke each scored once for Saginaw, which lost for the first time in three outings.

Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 23-of-28 shots for the win as Nikita Serebryakov made 32 saves in a losing cause.

Plymouth went 2 for 3 on the power play while Saginaw scored two goals on five chances with the man advantage.
