Winnipeg Jets get Tomas Kubalik from Columbus Blue Jackets for Spencer Machacek

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets acquired Tomas Kubalik on Sunday, sending Spencer Machacek to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The 22-year-old Kubalik has spent 54 games with the American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons this season, scoring 14 goals and six assists with 50 penalty minutes.

The Plzen, Czech Republic native has played in 12 career NHL games — all with Columbus — with a goal, three assists and six penalty minutes.

Kubalik was originally selected by the Blue Jackets in the fifth round, 135th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft.

Machacek has 11 goals and 14 assists with the St. John's IceCaps in 57 games this season, with a minus-23 rating.

Quote of the Day

We want to make sure that whoever makes our team really makes our team by earning it and not putting them in situations where they get preference because of their status as a first-round pick or whatever it might be. That's not going to happen. Everybody has to earn their way on our team.

— Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen on the team's prospects at development camp
