Shinkaruk scores winner as the Tigers edge the Raiders

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. - Hunter Shinkaruk scored with 23 seconds remaining in overtime as the Medicine Hat Tigers edged the host Prince Albert Raiders 2-1 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

Marek Langhamer stopped 37-of-38 shots for the Tigers (35-31-3) while Elgin Pearce scored in regulation.

Jonas Knutsen scored the lone goal for the Raiders (35-27-7), who are winless in five games, and Luke Siemens made 28 saves in defeat.

Both clubs went 0 for 3 on the power play.

The victory moves Medicine Hat to within four points of Prince Albert for the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference. Both clubs have seven regular-season games remaining.

Quote of the Day

I downplayed the first one because I thought it's just a hockey game. We just want to win the game; it's against our rival and we want the two points. I downplayed it, but now having gone through the first one I look back and say, 'Geez, that was really cool.' I think as I've grown a bit older I've got a lot more appreciation for what we're allowed to do every day.
