The Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday announced four new investors had joined the team's ownership group.
Among the new investors is Mark Rein, vice president and co-founder of Epic Games, a video game development company based in Cary, N.C. Among games produced by Epic Games is the Gears of War series for Xbox 360. Rein's wife, Tara, also has invested in the Hurricanes.
Also joining the ownership group is Chuck Hammel, president of owner of Pitt Ohio, a regional transportation company headquartered in Pittsburgh.
Two other investors have joined the group, but at their request have remained anonymous.
"The continuing growth of our ownership group strengthens the Carolina Hurricanes' position on the [North Carolina] Triangle landscape and will help the team be competitive on the ice," Hurricanes CEO and owner Peter Karmanos Jr. said. "I am pleased to welcome Mark and Tara Rein, Chuck Hammel and the others to the Hurricanes family."
