Penguins place Malkin on injured reserve
The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Monday that center Evgeni Malkin would be placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Feb. 22.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Monday that center Evgeni Malkin would be placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Feb. 22.

Malkin was officially diagnosed with a concussion on Sunday. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Malkin has been suffering from severe headaches and mild disorientation.

"He's feeling pretty good right now, so as we go forward in the next few days, standard protocol will be followed," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said after the Penguins' 5-3 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.

"After the hit in the previous game, Evgeni suffered some short-term memory loss and therefore was diagnosed with a concussion. He's had no other symptoms. He's feeling fine and his memory is returning."

Malkin departed a Feb. 22 game against the Florida Panthers in the third period after colliding with defenseman Erik Gudbranson and falling into the end boards, back-first. His head also swung back upon impact with the boards.

In 18 games this season, Malkin has four goals and 21 points.

Quote of the Day

I kept refreshing the page on the NHL website after the second round and I was shocked he lasted that long. I'm sure the Coyotes were pretty happy to get him. He's such a good player and he plays big in big games.
