Rakell, Payne each score a hat trick as the Whalers extend win streak to seven games

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Rickard Rakell and Cody Payne each scored three times as the Plymouth Whalers crushed the visiting Windsor Spitfires 9-1 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Tom Wilson had a goal and an assist for th Whalers (33-16-9), who extended their win streak to seven games, while Sebastian Uvira, Stefan Noesen and Connor Carrick had two assists apiece.

Ryan Hartman and Matthew Mistele each scored once to round out Plymouth's offence.

Alex Aleardi scored the lone goal for the Spitfires (23-29-7), who came into action nine points out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 27-of-28 shots for the win as Jordan DeKort took the loss after allowing all nine goals on 51 shots against.

Plymouth went 1 for 7 on the power play while Windsor scored once on four chances with the man advantage.

Once again, it shows character in this dressing room. Once again, there's no quitting in here. We all wanted this so bad and we worked so hard to get home-ice advantage and we weren't going to let this one slide.
