Anisimov was hit by Detroit defenseman Kyle Quincey 3:48 into the second period, hit his his head on the ice and did not get up. He was strapped to a stretcher and his head and neck were immobilized before he was wheeled off.
Anisimov was skating toward the back of the net alongside Detroit's Ian White when he lost his balance. Quincey landed a blow to Anisimov's head with his left fist or forearm that did not appear to be intentional.
The Blue Jackets said Anisimov never lost consciousness but was taken to a hospital as a precaution for further evaluation. They announced after the game that Anisimov would remain in the hospital overnight before returning to Columbus on Friday to see the team doctors.
No penalty was called on the play. Quincey left the bench and went to the dressing room with a left leg injury. He did not return.
Anisimov was returning to the lineup after injuring his foot while blocking a shot last Friday and missing two games. He has four goals and six points in 14 games this season.
