PITTSBURGH -- Matt Read, the Philadelphia Flyers' top goal-scorer, left the game against the Pittsburgh Penguins after the first period Wednesday night and will not return due to an upper-body injury.

Read, who had 24 goals as a rookie last season and had seven in the Flyers' first 17 games this season, was seen taking a puck off his chest late in the first period.

Former Penguin Max Talbot replaced Read on Philadelphia's top line.
