SPOKANE, Wash. - Jamie Crooks scored twice as the Victoria Royals dropped the Spokane Chiefs 5-3 on Sunday in the Western Hockey League.
Jack Walker, Ben Walker and Austin Carroll also scored for the Royals (32-19-4), who won their fifth straight and stand fourth in the Western Conference.
Mitch Holmberg, Dylan Walchuk and Adam Power, with his first career WHL goal, scored for Spokane (32-22-2).
The Royals raced out to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Crooks at 2:09 and Walker at 7:08, but Spokane cut the lead to one as Walchuk scored a short-handed goal at 18:01.
Victoria scored at 5:15 on a short-handed goal from Crooks and again at 13:50 with Ben Walker beating Eric Williams on the power play to give the Royals a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Holmberg pulled Spokane within two at 3:21 in the third as he fired home a rebound.
Victoria regained a three-goal lead at 7:40 as Carroll beat new Chiefs' goalie Garret Hughson, who replaced Williams to start the period.
Power's goal at 9:59 rounded out the scoring.
Patrik Polivka turned away 17 shots for Victoria.
