PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenceman Kimmo Timonen on a one-year contract extension through the 2013-14 season.
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren announced the deal before the Flyers' game against Florida on Thursday night. Timonen is in his sixth season with the Flyers and 14th in the NHL.
He had 28 goals and 211 points in 407 career games with the Flyers. Originally a 10th-round selection (250th overall) of the Los Angeles Kings in the 1993 draft, Timonen did not make his NHL debut until 1998 with the Nashville Predators. He has appeared in 980 NHL games in his 14 years with the Flyers and Nashville, scoring 107 goals and adding 405 assists for 512 points.
