McCann scores winner as the Greyhounds edge the Spirit in SO

SAGINAW, Mich. - Jared McCann scored the shootout winner as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds edged the host Saginaw Spirit 5-4 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Ryan Sproul, David Broll, Dylan Staples and Sergey Tolchinksy all scored in regulation for the Greyhounds (28-19-4), who have won four of their last five games.

Garret Ross had two goals and an assist for the Spirit (24-21-6) while Jimmy Lodge scored once and added three assists.

Eric Locke had a goal and an assist to round out Saginaw's offence.

Matt Murray started in goal for Sault Ste. Marie, but was pulled six minutes into the first period afer allowing two goals on two shots. Justin Nichols made 25 saves in relief for the win as Saginaw's Jake Paterson turned away 42-of-46 shots in a losing cause.

The Greyhounds went 1 for 6 on the power play while the Spirit went 1 for 3.
