Washington Capitals defenseman John Erskine faces a hearing on Saturday at 4:30 pm ET with the Department of Player Safety for his hit on Wayne Simmonds in a 3-2 victory Friday against the Philadelphia Flyers. The hearing will be held by phone. The grounds for the hearing are elbowing and illegal check to the head.
At the 18:14 mark of the first period, Erskine appeared to hit Simmonds in the head with his elbow on the play. No penalty was called. Simmonds left the game and did not return.
Washington plays its next game on Sunday afternoon, against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
