The Great One and some of his Hall of Fame friends will be back on the ice this week at the 11th annual Wayne Gretzky Fantasy Camp in Las Vegas, where legends of the game skate alongside doctors, dentists, attorneys and finance whizzes who are paying good money to live out their own childhood dreams.
Among the notable former players joining Gretzky at his fantasy camp this week are fellow Hockey Hall of Fame members Brian Leetch, Denis Savard and Grant Fuhr. Chris Chelios, Marty McSorley, Curtis Joseph, Russ Courtnall, Geoff Courtnall and Rick Tocchet are also expected to play. Mike Keenan is scheduled to be in attendance as a coach.
"One thing about being great players is sometimes I don't think people realize how much guys love the game of hockey," Gretzky told NHL.com at last year's camp. "We can sit around and talk the game of hockey all day. So, my enjoyment comes in watching the campers come in and get the opportunity to ask questions and listen to stories. That's what it is all about. Everything about the camp is surrounded by the game of hockey, and that's what makes it enjoyable for me."
Gretzky has also invited NHL Network and NHL.com to go behind the scenes at his annual camp.
NHL Network will be generating exclusive material for NHL Live (4-7 p.m. ET Monday and Tuesday, 5-7 p.m. ET Wednesday-Friday) while NHL.com will be featuring a live blog on both Monday and Tuesday.
The Wayne Gretzky Fantasy Camp runs the entire week. All games take place at the Las Vegas Ice Center and the hotel headquarters is the Bellagio Las Vegas.
