Matt Rupert scores winner as the Knights edge the Frontenacs

KINGSTON, Ont. - Matt Rupert scored the winning goal at 16:06 of the third period as the London Knights edged the host Kingston Frontenacs 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in Ontario Hockey League action.

Seth Griffith and Dakota Mermis also scored for the Knights (37-9-3) while Matt Rupert picked up an assist for a two-point outing.

Griffith's goal gives him a one-point lead over Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds' forward Nick Cousins for the OHL scoring lead. The 19-year-old has 31 goals and 77 points in 49 games.

Mermis, who started the 2012-13 season as a member of the University of Denver Pioneers, has three goals and 10 points in nine games since joining London on Jan. 4th.

Ryan Hanes and Billy Jenkins scored for the Frontenacs (20-23-4), who are now winless in their last eight contests, and Spencer Watson assisted on both of his club's goals.

Anthony Stolarz stopped 28-of-30 shots for the win as Mike Morrison turned away 29 shots in a losing cause.

London went 2 for 4 with the power play, including Matt Rupert's winner, while Kingston scored once on four chances with the man advantage.

Knights' forward Ryan Rupert sat out his final game of a three-game suspension for abuse of an official and is eligible to return to the lineup on Feb. 1st when London host the Brampton Battalion.

Quote of the Day

You get the right the whistles at the right times, you can leave him out there. He's a beast when it comes to being on the ice. I thought [Saturday] he was a big man. That first period, he did that lateral cut and it was like three bowling pins bounced off him. There's not too many guys that can do that.
