Carruth makes 36 saves as the Winterhawks blank the Chiefs

SPOKANE, Wash. - Mac Carruth stopped 36 shots as the Portland Winterhawks blanked the host Spokane Chiefs 3-0 on Friday in Western Hockey League play.

Ty Rattie and Nicolas Petan each had a goal and an assist for the Winterhawks (38-7-3), who halted a four-game winless streak, and Brendan Leipsic scored once.

Petan now has 83 points in 48 games, which leads the WHL in scoring, while Leipsic is second in league scoring with 78 points in 46 games.

Eric Williams turned away 34-of-37 shots for the Chiefs (30-17-2), who lost in regulation for the first time in four contests.

Portland went 3 for 7 on the power play while Spokane failed to score on seven chances with the man advantage.
