Bob Raymond scores the winner as Charlotte Checkers down Abbotsford Heat 5-4

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Bob Raymond scored the game winner at 7:31 of the third period Saturday as the Charlotte Checkers defeated the Abbotsford Heat 5-4 in matinee American Hockey League action.

Luke Pither, with a goal and an assist, Tim Wallace, Michal Jordan and Brett Bellemore also scored for the Checkers (26-14-5), who got 14 saves from John Muse. Chris Terry and Justin Shugg each chipped in with two assists.

Chris Breen, Dustin Sylvester, Tyler Ruegsegger and Akim Aliu had the goals for the Heat (22-13-7). Barry Brust stopped 34 shots in taking the loss. Roman Horak and Max Reinhart both added two assists for Abbotsford, which defeated Charlotte 4-3 on Friday night.

Tied 2-2 in the second, Sylvester gave the Heat the lead with seven minutes to go in the period. But Jordan knotted the score again at 14:19 before Wallace made it 4-3 for the Checkers with 11 seconds left on the clock.

Aliu tied the score at 4:14 of the third before Raymond gave Charlotte the lead for good just over three minutes later.

The Checkers finished the day 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Heat were scoreless on four chances.
