QMJHL Roundup: Drouin extends point streak to 11 in win over Phoenix

Jonathan Drouin extended his point streak to 11 games on Friday as the Halifax Mooseheads downed the visiting Sherbrooke Phoenix 7-2 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

The 17-year-old winger scored once and added an assist and now has eight goals and 20 points during his run. In 30 games this season, Drouin has 23 goals and 60 points, which is good for second in team scoring.

Stefan Fournier had a goal and two assists for the Mooseheads (39-4-3), who are 21-1-1 on home ice, while Brent Andrew and Martin Frk each had a goal and an assist.

Konrad Abeltshauser, Ryan Falkenham and Stephen MacAulay also scored for Halifax and Nathan MacKinnon picked up an assist to stay one point ahead of Drouin for the team lead in scoring.

Steve Lebel scored both goals for the Phoenix (13-28-6), who fell to 6-17-0 on the road.

Zachary Fucale stopped 27-of-29 shots for his league-leading 31st victory of the season as Jack Flinn made 32 saves in defeat.

Halifax went 2 for 5 on the power play while Sherbrooke failed to score on either of its chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Moncton 5, Acadie-Bathurst 0; Baie-Comeau 3, Drummondville 1; Rimouski 7, Gatineau 1; Chicoutimi 4, Rouyn-Noranda 2 and Victoriaville 4, Shawinigan 3.

At Halifax, Lebel opened the scoring for the Phoenix 4:05 into the first period, however the Mooseheads responded with five straight goals to blow the game open.

Fournier tied the game at 8:36 and less than three minutes later MacAulay gave Halifax the lead.

Drouin added a power-play goal at 13:56 to make it 3-1 Mooseheads after 20 minutes.

Frk and Abeltshauser added on two more goals for Halifax before Lebel finally responded for Sherbrooke at 14:40.

Andrews made it 6-2 before the second period was through and Falkenham rounded out Halifax's scoring at 12:43 of the third period.

At Gatineau, Que., seven of Rimouski's players recorded a multi-point game including Michael Foy, who scored twice, and Rob Gusse turned away 26 shots as the Oceanic (32-11-5) extended its win streak to seven games by crushing the Olympiques (21-23-3).

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Charles Hudon scored two goals and set up one more while Christopher Gibson stopped 25-of-27 shots as Chicoutimi (24-21-4) doubled up the Huskies (28-18-1), who dropped their fourth contest in a row.

At Shawinigan, Que., Philippe Maillet scored the winning goal at 13:24 of the third period and Angelo Miceli chipped in with three assists as Victoriaville (18-21-7) slipped past the Cataractes (10-29-5) for its first win in three games.
