QMJHL Roundup: Anthony Mantha's hat trick lifts Foreurs over Huskies 6-2

Anthony Mantha continued to be the focal point of the Val-d'Or Foreurs offence on Thursday.

Mantha had a hat trick and an assist as Val-d'Or handled the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 6-2 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

The left-winger leads the Foreurs with 37 goals and 30 assists, fifth best in the QMJHL.

Captain Cedrick Henley had a goal and two assists for Val-d'Or (24-20-3), while Randy Gazzola and Loik Poudrier also scored. Philippe Trudeau made 27 saves for the win.

Nikita Kucherov and Sven Andrighetto replied for Rouyn-Noranda (28-17-1). Alexandre Belanger started in net for the Huskies, and stopped 20 of 24 shots in 25:42 of work. Philippe Gingras turned aside 14 of 16 shots in relief.

It was a chippy game, with the teams combining for 60 minutes of penalties. The Foreurs had 33 minutes, while Rouyn-Noranda had 27.

Val-d'Or did not score on its two power plays. The Huskies went 1 for 5 with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Quebec 4 Cape Breton 1.

At Sydney, N.S., Axel Rioux scored and added an assist as Quebec (27-16-3) downed Cape Breton (10-30-8).
