Scott Gomez should become a member of the San Jose Sharks in the coming days, according to reports.
After Gomez's contract was bought out by the Montreal Canadiens last week, he joined the Sharks for practices but has yet to sign a contract with the club. Gomez traveled with the Sharks to Calgary for Sunday’s game against the Flames.
The Sharks will face the Oilers in Edmonton on Wednesday night.
Gomez, 33, ended a disappointing three-year stint with the Canadiens when the final two years of his contract were bought out by general manager Marc Bergevin, who originally intended to have Gomez sit out this season in order to avoid injury and allow a buyout to happen in the offseason.
In 196 games with the Canadiens, Gomez had 21 goals and 87 assists.
A deal with San Jose would reunite Gomez with Sharks assistant coach Larry Robinson, who coached Gomez for parts of four seasons with the New Jersey Devils.
