Flames send Karlsson to Blackhawks for draft pick
The Calgary Flames on Monday traded goaltender Henrik Karlsson to the Chicago Blackhawks for a seventh-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.

The Calgary Flames on Monday traded goaltender Henrik Karlsson to the Chicago Blackhawks for a seventh-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft. The Blackhawks assigned Karlsson to their American Hockey League team, the Rockford Icehogs.

Karlsson, 29, lost a training-camp battle with Leland Irving to be the backup to Miikka Kiprusoff. He had been placed on waivers Jan. 17 and assigned to the club's American Hockey League team, the Abbotsford Heat, on Monday.

He went 1-4-2 in nine games with the Flames last season, with a 3.17 goals-against average and .909 save percentage.

In 26 NHL games with the Flames in the last two seasons, Karlsson had a 5-9-8 record with a 2.79 GAA and .905 save percentage.
