Derick Brassard scores as Columbus beats Predators 3-2 in shootout for rare win in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Derick Brassard scored in the sixth round of a shootout, and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Nashville Predators 3-2 Saturday night for their fifth win to start a season and a very rare win over their Central Division foe.

Columbus had not won an opener since Oct. 3, 2009, against Minnesota, and the Blue Jackets had won only once in Nashville in the previous 20 games.

They needed overtime to do that 4-3 on Nov. 19, 2011.

Artem Anisimov, acquired in the trade that sent Rick Nash to the Rangers, scored on a backhand over Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne in the second round of the shootout.

David Legwand scored on a backhand in the third round to tie it up and extend the shootout. That was it before Brassard scored.

Colin Wilson had a chance to tie it up, but Columbus goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky got his right foot out for the save and the win.

Quote of the Day

I loved being in the jerseys again and they worked some magic for us. It was weird in warm-ups, seeing No. 22 in that jersey and thinking he’s [Mike Gartner], and No. 8 reminds you of Danny Briere … every number had me thinking back to the guys who wore them and smiling.
