Jaroslav Pavelka makes 32 saves as Spitfires down Steelheads 2-1

WINDSOR, Ont. - Jaroslav Pavelka made 32 saves Thursday as the Windsor Spitfires defeated the Mississauga Steelheads 2-1 in the Ontario Hockey League.

Sam Studnicka and Alexander Khokhlachev had the goals for Windsor (17-19-6), while Sam Babintsev replied for Mississauga (20-18-4).

Tyson Teichmann made 16 saves in a losing effort for the Steelheads.

Studnicka opened the scoring for the Spitfires at 13:34 of the first period with his second goal of the season when he one-timed a pass from Emerson Clark while parked in the high slot.

Khokhlachev upped Windsor's lead to 2-0 at 3:14 of the second period with his fourth goal in four games since returning from the Kontinental Hockey League last week.

Babintsev scored his fourth goal of the season for Mississauga at 17:12 of the third but the Steelheads would get no closer.

The Spitfires have won three of their last four games, in addition to a shootout loss, since ending a seven-game losing streak last week. Pavelka has a .965 save percentage in those four contests.

Windsor was 0-for-2 on the power play, while Mississauga was scoreless in four chances.

Quote of the Day

I think everybody wanted the puck tonight. Everybody wanted to be part of the solution and it reflected on the way we played. It's tiring when you have to chase the puck but tonight was one of those nights where everyone really wanted to make a play and wanted to have an impact on the game.
