Steven Hodges scores 2 as Victoria Royals beat Kamloops Blazers 3-2

VICTORIA - Steven Hodges had a pair of regulation goals and a shootout goal for the Victoria Royals as they defeated the Kamloops Blazers 3-2 on Wednesday night in Western Hockey League action.

Jack Walker and Tyler Stahl also scored in the shootout for Victoria (23-17-3), while goaltender Patrik Polivka stopped 31 shots.

Dylan Willick and Coly Ully replied for the Blazers (29-13-5) in regulation, and Taran Kozun made 26 saves.

Hodges opened the scoring at 12:40 in the first, before Willick tied the game just 52 seconds into the second.

Kamloops took its first lead at 14:12 when Ully beat Polivka for a 2-1 lead.

But Hodges evened the score back up at two 1:24 into the third with the Royals on a five-on-three man advantage to send the game to extra time.

Quote of the Day

I downplayed the first one because I thought it's just a hockey game. We just want to win the game; it's against our rival and we want the two points. I downplayed it, but now having gone through the first one I look back and say, 'Geez, that was really cool.' I think as I've grown a bit older I've got a lot more appreciation for what we're allowed to do every day.
