QMJHL Roundup: Marcoux earns second shutout of season as the Armada crush the Screaming Eagles

Etienne Marcoux stopped all 18 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season as the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada crushed the host Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 7-0 on Sunday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

The 19-year-old goaltender improved his record to 15-6-1 and lowered his goal-against average to 2.14, which leads the QMJHL.

Nikita Jevpalovs scored twice for the Armada (25-13-5), who won for the first time in four outings, while Danick Martel had a goal and two assists.

David Bedard, Cedric Paquette, Tommy Giroux and Pier-Olivier GrandMaison also scored for Blainville-Boisbriand and captain Xavier Oullette led his club with a plus-5 rating.

Stephen Woodworth was a team-worst minus-5 for the Screaming Eagles (9-28-7), who are winless in eight games.

David Honzik picked up the loss for Cape Breton as he allowed two goals on 12 shots in the opening period. Alex Bureau started the second period and stopped 19-of-24 shots in 40 minutes of relief.

Blainville-Boisbriand went 0 for 2 on the power play while Cape Breton failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Gatineau 6, Acadie-Bathurst 4; Royn-Noranda 4, Chicoutimi 2; Drummondville 5, Val-d'Or 2; Rimouski 3, Shawinigan 2 and Sherbrooke 3, Saint John 0.

At Bathurst, N.B., Martin Reway had two goals and two assists and Rock Regimbald scored twice and added an assist as Gatineau (18-22-3) downed the Titan (18-22-5), who fell to 9-10-2 on home ice.

At Chicoutimi, Que., Alexandre Belanger stopped 38-of-40 shots and Mathieu Brisebois' goal at 3:31 of the second period stood up as the winner as Rouyn-Noranda (28-14-1) halted the Sagueneens (22-19-4) five-game win streak.

At Drummondville, Que., Jerome Verrier scored twice and Domenic Graham made 35 saves as the Voltiguers (24-15-3) beat Val-d'Or (22-19-3) for their first win in four outings.

At Rimouski, Que., Francis Beauvillier scored twice and Robin Gusse turned away 20-of-22 shots as the Oceanic (28-11-5) slipped past Shawinigan (9-28-5) for their third win in a row.

At Sherbrooke, Que., Jacob Gervais-Chouinard stopped all 23 shots he faced and Alexandre Comtois scored two goals as the Phoenix (12-25-6) handed Saint John (18-24-0) its fourth loss in a row.
