Crooks scores three times as the Royals beat the Thunderbirds

KENT, Wash. - Jamie Crooks scored three goals as the Victoria Royals downed the host Seattle Thunderbirds 6-2 on Saturday in Western Hockey League play.

Steven Hodges, Brandon Magee and Austin Carroll also scored for the Royals (21-17-3), who won for the first time in three outings, and Alex Gogolev chipped in with two assists.

Shea Theodore had a goal and an assist for the Thunderbirds (16-24-3), who are winless in their last 13 games, and Seth Swenson scored the other.

Patrik Polivka stopped 37 shots for the win as Brandon Glover took the loss after allowing three goals on nine shots. Danny Mumaugh took over for the Thunderbirds to start the second period and stopped 26-of-28 shots in relief.

Victoria went 3 for 5 on the power play while Seattle scored once on four chances with the man advantage.

Quote of the Day

I definitely think going back down helped me, I had a lot of confidence down there, I played a lot of minutes and I think that helped me a lot. With the 37 games up here, that gave me experience as well. I know what it takes to play in the NHL and now it's time for me to show that I'm capable of being a full-time NHL player.
