Brossoit stops 34 shots as the Oil Kings down the Blades

SASKATOON - Laurent Brossoit stopped 34 shots as the Edmonton Oil Kings hung on to defeat the host Saskatoon Blades 2-1 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

Brandon Baddock and Keegan Lowe both scored in the second period to put the Oil Kings (29-9-5) up 2-0.

Josh Nicholls responded for the Blades (21-20-1) midway though the third period, however that was all Brossoit would let by as his club held on to a one-goal lead for the final 10:04 of the game.

Andrey Makarov turned away 30-of-32 shots in a losing cause.

Edmonton went 0 for 3 on the power play while Saskatoon scored once on three chances with the man advantage.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
