OHL Roundup: Alan Quine shines in debut as the Bulls crush the Petes 8-2

Alan Quine made an immediate impact for his new club Friday as the Belleville Bulls crushed the host Kingston Frontenacs 8-2 in the Ontario Hockey League.

The 19-year-old forward, acquired by Belleville from the Peterborough Petes on Thursday, scored once and added four assists in debut.

"It's awesome to get the big win," said Quine. "Our line clicked and to pop a few in with my line and get a few breaks, it was nice."

Joseph Cramarossa also had a five-point outing for the Bulls (23-12-5), who trailed 2-0 midway through the first period, scoring three times and setting up two others. Jordan Subban added a goal and three assists.

Daniil Zharkov scored once and chipped in two assists, while Brendan Gaunce and Carter Sandlak had the other goals to round out Belleville's offence.

Ryan Kujawinksi had a goal and an assist for the Frontenacs (20-18-2), who lost for the first time in three outings. Sam Povorozniouk had the other goal for Kingston.

"Most of the guys are pretty upset," said Frontenacs captain Cody Alcock. "We kind of let ourselves down. We needed to have four lines going."

Belleville's Charlie Graham made 31 saves for the win. Mike Morrison took the loss after allowing five goals on 18 shots through 30 minutes of action. Colin Furlong stopped 9-of-12 shots in relief.

Elsewhere in the OHL it was: Plymouth 4, Brampton 2; Saginaw 4, Erie 3; Guelph 3, Barrie 2; Kitchener 5, Sarnia 1; London 10, Ottawa 5; Oshawa 4, Peterborough 3 (SO); and Sudbury 2, Mississauga 0.

At Kingston, Ont., Kujawinksi and Povorozniouk scored power-play goals four minutes apart to give the Frontenacs a 2-0 lead 12 minutes into the first period.

Zharkov responded for the Bulls at 12:28 and Sandlak tied the game 2-2 heading into the first intermission.

Cramarossa scored 2:47 into the second period to give Belleville its first lead of the game and Quine and Subban added goals with the man advantage to pull the Bulls ahead 5-2 and chase Morrison.

Cramarossa then added his second goal of the game at 14:32 to make it 6-2 after 40 minutes.

Gaunce scored Belleville's third power-play goal of the game early in the third period and Cramarossa completed his hat trick with a short-handed goal at 17:34.

Whalers 4, Battalion 2

At Plymouth, Mich., Matthew Mistele scored twice and Matt Mahalak stopped 32 shots as the Whalers (20-13-8) doubled up Brampton (19-18-7), which is winless in four games.

At Saginaw, Mich., Eric Locke had two goals, including the game winner, and Garret Ross scored once and set up two more as the Spirit (19-19-5) beat Erie (14-22-6) to extend their win streak to four games.

At Guelph, Ont., Scott Kosmachuk scored two goals and Garret Sparks stopped 24 shots as the Storm (22-14-5) ended their four-game slide by downing Barrie (27-13-1).

At Kitchener, Ont., Brent Pedersen had two goals and an assist and Josh Sterk and Justin Bailey each had a goal and an assist as the Rangers (23-13-6) beat Sarnia (24-15-3).

At London, Ont., Max Domi scored twice and set up three more, Seth Griffith and Matt Rupert had a goal and two assists apiece and the Knights (35-5-3) crushed Ottawa (12-29-3) for their 27th win in their last 28 games.

At Oshawa, Ont., Bradley Latour had the shootout winner while Justice Dundas, Boone Jenner and Michael Dal Colle scored in regulation as the Generals (24-15-3) edged Peterborough (12-24-6).

At Sudbury, Ont., Franky Palazzese stopped all 24 shots he faced in his Sudbury debut and Dominik Kubalik's second-period goal stood up as the winner as the Wolves (19-16-7) blanked Mississauga (20-16-4).
