Jaroslav Pavelka makes 38 saves as Spitfires shut out Battalion 3-0

WINDSOR, Ont. - Jaroslav Pavelka made 38 saves Thursday as the Windsor Spitfires snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-0 shutout of the Brampton Battalion in the Ontario Hockey League.

Ryan Verbeek, with his first OHL goal, Emerson Clark and Ben Johnson scored for the Spitfires (15-19-6).

The shutout was Pavelka's first of the season and the fourth of his OHL career. The scorless first snapped a streak of 21 consecutive periods in which the Spitfires had allowed at least one goal.

Matej Machovsky allowed three goals on 16 shots for the Battalion (19-17-7), who have lost four straight. Jake Smith played the third period for Brampton and made 13 saves, including a penalty shot from Windsor's Alex Aleardi.

The game marked the return to the Windsor lineup of Alex Khokhlachev from Moscow Spartak of the Kontinental Hockey League. The Boston Bruins prospect assisted on Johnson's second period power-play goal.

Quote of the Day

Because of the way they play and their skill set I don't think they're fourth-line players, so in my mind I'm looking at one of those guys I'll have to move over to the wing.
