Eetu Laurikainen makes 34 saves to help Broncos defeat Rebels 5-2

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos got goals from five different players to defeat the Red Deer Rebels 5-2 in WHL action Wednesday night.

Swift Current goaltender Eetu Laurikainen made his first start in over a month after representing Finland at the World Junior Hockey Championships, and stopped 34 shots.

Adam Lowry, Richard Nedomlel, Reece Scarlett, Jay Markley and Colby Cave scored for the Broncos (19-20-5).

Lowry opened the scoring with his 28th goal of the season, and it extended his point-streak to 18 games, to tie Brendan Leipsic of the Kamloops Blazers for the longest streak in the WHL this season

Merkley made it 4-2 in the third period with a power play goal in his first game for the Broncos after being acquired from Lethbridge one day earlier.

Matt Bellerive scored twice for Red Deer (23-18-4). Patrik Bartosak made 33 saves for the Rebels.

Quote of the Day

After being through it and seeing the other [outdoor] games on TV, just the atmosphere is spectacular. To stand here -- and we are essentially almost on the blue line -- and look up [into the stands] and knowing it is going to be packed and playing our biggest rival in this setting is going to be pretty special.
