QMJHL Roundup: A look at Sunday's games

Zach O'Brien scored three times and set up two more as the Acadie-Bathurst Titan downed the visiting Moncton Wildcats 5-2 on Sunday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

O'Brien's hat trick was his second in as many outings and he has now picked up at least one point in 10 straight games. During his scoring run, the 20-year-old forward has 11 goals and 22 points and his 62 total points in 40 games has him third in QMJHL scoring.

Christophe Lalancette had a goal and an assist for the Titan (17-20-5), who have won four games in a row, and Andrew Meredith scored the other.

Christophe Lalonde and Ryan Penny scored for the Wildcats (24-16-1) and Mark Tremaine assisted on both of his club's goals.

Jacob Brennan stopped 40-of-42 shots for the win as Cole Holowenko turned aside 24 shots in a losing cause.

Acadie-Bathurst went 1 for 3 on the power play while Moncton failed to score on six chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: P.E.I. 5, Halifax 2; Chicoutimi 1, Blainville-Boisbriand 0; Baie-Comeau 5, Drummondville 4 (OT); Rimouski 5, Gatineau 4 and Sherbrooke 5, Shawinigan 2.

At Bathurst, N.B., O'Brien opened the scoring 1:21 into the second period with a power-play goal, but Penny responded for the Wildcats at 10:24.

Lalancette and Lalonde traded goals late in the period to make it 2-2 after 40 minutes of play.

Meredith regained the lead for Acadie-Bathurst 2:21 into the third period and O'Brien added two more goals, including one into an empty net, to secure the victory for the Titan.

At Boisbriand, Que., Christopher Gibson stopped all 41 shots he faced and Laurent Dauphin scored the game's only goal at 7:44 of the first period as Chicoutimi (19-18-4) blanked the Armada (24-11-5), who lost in regulation time for the first time in four outings.

At Drummondville, Que., Felix Girard scored 13 seconds into overtime and set up both of Dominic Poulin's goals in regulation time as Baie-Comeau (27-11-3) extended its win streak to six games by defeating the Voltiguers (23-14-2).

Oceanic 5 Olympiques 4

At Gatineau, Que., Peter Trainor and Kevin Gagne each had two goals and an assist as Rimouski (26-11-5) slipped past the Olympiques (15-21-3) for its first win in three outings.

Phoenix 5 Cataractes 2

At Shawinigan, Que., Simon Desbiens scored twice and Jacob Gervais-Chouinard made 17 saves as Sherbrooke (11-23-6) downed the Cataractes (8-27-5), who have lost five games in a row.
