QMJHL Roundup: A look at Thursday's games

Jacob Brennan made 39 saves as the Acadie-Bathurst Titan downed the host P.E.I. Rocket 6-1 on Thursday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play.

The 18-year-old goaltender is playing his best hockey of the season as he's gone 3-1-0 in his last four appearances, with one shutout, and has stopped 109-of-113 shots in the process. In 34 games this season, he is now 13-16-3 with a 3.35 goals-against average and .899 save percentage.

Michael Beaudry scored twice for the Titan (15-20-5), Matthew Bissonnette and Andrew Meredith had a goal and an assist each while Zac O'Brien chipped in with three assists.

O'Brien now has 24 goals and 53 points in 38 games, which moves him into sixth in QMJHL scoring.

Raphael Lafontaine and Francois Godin scored a goal apiece to round out Acadie-Bathurst's offence.

Louick Marcotte scored the lone goal for the Rocket (21-15-2), who lost for the first time in three outings.

Maxime Lagace took the loss after allowing three goals on 10 shots through 20 minutes of action. Antoine Bibeau came in for the final two periods and stopped 19-of-22 shots in relief.

Acadie-Bathurst went 1 for 5 on the power play while P.E.I. failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Halifax 7, Moncton 3; Blainville-Boisbriand 3, Sherbrooke 2; Baie-Comeau 5, Rimouski 4 (SO) and Gatineau 6, Shawinigan 5 (SO).

At Charlottetown, Beaudry opened the scoring 7:08 into the first period and Meredith and Bissonnette added a goal apiece to make it 3-0 for Acadie-Bathurst after 20 minutes of action.

Despite putting 21 shots against Brennan in the second period, the Rocket could not score and they found themselves down 5-0 after 40 minutes of play as Godin and Beaudry scored for the Titan.

Lafontaine made it 6-0 at 12:49 of the third period before Marcotte ended Brennan's shut-out bid with a goal at 19:11.

At Halifax, seven Mooseheads' players recorded a multi-point game including Darcy Ashley, who had a goal and three assists, as Halifax (32-3-2) beat Moncton (23-15-1) for their eighth victory in a row.

At Boisbriand, Que., Samuel Carrier's goal 6:41 into the third period stood up as the winner and Ryan Tesink chipped in with two assists as the Armada (23-10-5) ended their five-game winless streak by edging Sherbrooke (10-22-6).

Drakkar 5 Oceanic 4 (SO)

At Rimouski, Que., Valentin Zykov scored the shootout winner and also added a goal and two assists in regulation time as Baie-Comeau (25-11-3) ended the Oceanic's (25-10-5) eight-game winning streak.

Olympiques 6 Cataractes 5 (SO)

At Gatineau, Que., Simon Tardif-Richard scored once in the shootout and once in regulation time while Emile Poirer chipped in with three assists as the Olympiques (15-20-3) slipped past Shawinigan (8-25-5), which is winless in its last three games.
