WHL Roundup: A look at Wednesday's games

The Kamloops Blazers earned yet another win against Vancouver then left town with some extra help on offence.

Tim Bozon scored and had two assists as the Blazers beat the Giants 4-2 in Western Hockey League play Wednesday.

Dylan Willick, Chase Souto and Joel Edmundson also scored for the Blazers (27-10-4), who have won all four meetings with the Giants so far this season and outscored them 19-9.

After the game, the Blazers acquired forward Kale Kessy for forward Rob Trzonkowski and a fifth-round bantam draft pick in 2015.

Kessy, a fourth-round pick of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2011, had been with the Giants since October after Vancouver acquired him from the Medicine Hat Tigers. He had seven goals and nine assists with 45 penalty minutes in 26 games with Vancouver.

Trzonkowski had three goals and two assists in 40 games with Kamloops.

With the victory, the Blazers moved to within seven points of the league-leading Portland Winterhawks.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Medicine Hat 5, Prince Albert 2; Calgary 10, Brandon 2; Kootenay 4, Red Deer 1; and Kelowna 4, Victoria 2.

At Vancouver, Blake Orban and Trevor Cheek scored for the Giants (10-28-0), who remained at the bottom of the WHL standings.

The teams were tied 2-2 after 40 minutes, but the Blazers scored a pair of quick goals in the third period. Bozon put Kamloops up 3-2 at 11:17 and Souto added an insurance goal less than two minutes later with a short-handed effort.

Taran Kozun made 20 saves in net for Kamloops, while at the other end of the ice Tyler Fuhr stopped 25 shots.

Tigers 5, Raiders 2

At Prince Albert, Sask., Hunter Shinkaruk scored twice as Medicine Hat (17-20-2) cruised past the Raiders (24-12-3).

Hitmen 10, Wheat Kings 2

At Calgary, Brooks Macek scored a hat trick and the Hitmen (25-10-4) had five power-play goals to thump Brandon (14-21-4).

At Cranbrook, B.C., Luke Philp's two goals helped Kootenay (13-24-1) beat Red Deer (22-16-3).

At Kelowna, B.C., Jordon Cooke made 30 saves for the Rockets (27-10-2), who beat Victoria (19-15-2) for their 15th straight victory at home.
